Patronyme surtout porté dans l'Ardèche. On peut évidemment penser à une déformation de Catalan, mais c'est loin d'être certain. En tout cas le nom existe comme toponyme : on le rencontre à trois reprises dans la Drôme (Beaumont-lès-Valence, Romans), et à deux reprises dans les Landes (Carcen-Ponson, Gouts).
